Also thinking of those who are incarcerated all over the world; it is heartening to hear how performance is being used as a tool of empowerment and development within prisons, which are designed to disempower and dehumanize. I am struck by how familiar this experience seems to me, being a Danish university student far removed geographically and otherwise from South African prisons - and yet, I recognize the therapeutic/community-building quality of the experience and conversation.
